Taking inspiration from the late 18th and early 19th century movement, this ornate Afghan Arts and Crafts Rug is a beautiful example of fine craftsmanship and textile art. Influenced by the designs of William Morris, this rug is adorned with decorative features. Striking palmettes and vines intertwine between one another throughout the centre of the carpet and small flowers are detailed in the narrow border, also growing from the flowing vines. The deep blue ground colour used in this fine rug showcases its Persian roots, which is enhanced by the contrasts created by the design motifs. Large palmettes use rich red, deep gold, pale blue and cream colours that burst out from within the rug. The design is further enhanced by the delicate, interconnecting vines and flowers also using these tones.Hand knotted from fine, hand spun Afghan sheep's wool, this Afghan Arts and Crafts Carpet was created by master weavers with great attention to detail and dedication to their craft. As such, the rug is incredibly durable and has a lustrous sheen, perfect for making a statement in busy spaces like living rooms and dining rooms. While a traditional rug design, this piece would also sit well in more contemporary spaces due to the bold contrast of colours woven within the rug. It could even become a centrepiece for more minimalist settings.
