South Persian Qasqai
Qasqai are a Turkish speaking, nomadic tribe based in the Fars region in Southern Iran, known as the land of the original Persians. They are a confederation of six tribes each with their own pastures and migration route.
As with most nomadic tribes, the Qasqai rugs are woven by women. They are 100% wool and woven on horizontal looms pegged out on the floor. Typically geometric in style, often with motifs of stylised birds, animals and flowers surrounding a diamond shaped central lozenge. Typical colours are red, terracotta, madder, cream and blue.
