A Fine Persian Mashad rug (also known as a Meshad Rug) hand knotted in the North East of Iran. It features classic floral designs and rich naturally dyed colours of red, pink, cream, gold and dark blue. Its central star medallion is adorned with flowers, so much so they appear to burst from within, outgrowing the centre. The borders are also extensively floral, featuring flowers reaching out towards the centre of the rug, almost as if the entire rug is an ornate garden.
Woven around the city of Mashad in the Khorassan region of Iran, Mashad rug design can date back to the 1500s. Usually, these rugs are large rectangular pieces, but in this instance, this little rug is almost perfectly square whilst still keeping a grand central medallion.
Excellent quality, lustrous wool is used to weave Mashad rugs, and this piece is no exception. With its rich colours and blossoming design, this rug complements traditional spaces with classic floral detailing.
