This elegant Part Silk Persian Tabriz has a traditional central medallion comprised of bright red floral head patterns with petals that almost look embossed in a unique gold colour. Moving outwards from the centre, hundreds of deep navy petals appear to dance around the rug, creating swirls that weave between the contrasting cream and grey linear curves.
What makes this piece particularly unique is the two sets of spanning wings featured at the top and bottom of the rug’s borders, which were likely influenced by nature, possibly a bird native to the land in which the weaver was situated at the time of hand-knotting the rug.
Silk and Part Silk Persian Tabriz Rugs such as this one, are typically handwoven on a vertical loom with the designs heavily influenced by the weaver. Rugs as fine as this one require a particularly skilled hand which means the weaver has more creative freedom and in many cases, they would weave his or her name on the carpet. The individuality of these works of art makes them very desirable to rug collectors.
This Tabriz rug will last for decades to come, yet the use of silk intertwined with wool gives the rug a delicate feel, which is further emphasised by the gentile medium length fringe that is extremely soft to the touch.
This rug would thrive in traditional settings which feature big, bold colours due to its more reserved colour pallet.
