Fine Antique Persian Khorassan Carpet
The region of Khorassan in north eastern Persia has been famed for fine antique carpets going back to Timurid times in the late middle ages. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries Khorassan became a centre for the production of high quality room-sized carpets, although these are sometimes known by more specific designations such as Mashad or Doroksh. This piece has a rich plum red ground colour, with an overall floral foliate & palmette design, a mixture of natural vegetable/ chrome dyes, circa: 1910.
