An ornate Afghan Kazak Rug finely hand knotted and displaying designs inspired by those of the Caucasus region. A modern piece, the motifs used throughout the rug are typical of a Kazak and geometric in nature. Blue and red colours are regularly seen in pieces such as this. However, the apricot-orange field tones are a rare find.
This Kazak Rug features a mix of star and lozenge medallions throughout the centre, with fronds and palmettes in smaller sizes woven between these areas. These designs stand out as the apricot ground colour contrasts against the reds and blues.
There are again smaller star and lozenge designs with the addition of small flowers in the borders. The blue tones with the tiny hints of green help the design flow into the blue areas of the central rug.
This Kazak is woven using Afghan wool, making this piece highly durable and also adds a shimmering quality to the rug. This wool also helps the design of the rug stand out.
