This Fine Afghan Kazak rug features bold patterns that originate from the Caucasus. A new piece, the overall look and feel of the rug is typical of an Afghan Kazak with large geometric shapes displayed in rich red and blue colours with light cream segments.
This particular Kazak rug feels exceptionally well balanced with each of the three central lozenges containing square shapes, surrounded by structural vine and floral head patterns. The field of the rug contains palmettes and a series of smaller horizontal lozenges that mirror the centre, further adding to the overall balance of the design.
The detailed borders of this Kazak add to its overall appeal, with the sharpness of the designs being emphasised by the short pile. The weaver uses the border to introduce more of the exquisite green colouring while keeping the larger areas more consistent with the field.
This rug is hand knotted using fine Afghan wool spun in Ghazni which is known for its durability, making it excellent for weaving. This also means the rug has a natural sheen, almost as if the jewel-like colours are glimmering.
