A fine, decorative Afghan Feraghan Rug with a rich mix of colours. It has a beautifully soft pile with terracotta, pale blue and gold design motifs against a dark blue ground. In contrast to similar rugs, this Afghan Feraghan also features palmettes that are comparable to Oushak rugs, which is evident from their non-symmetrical style.
The design of this piece is rooted in Persian Feraghan Rugs from the 19th century, with motifs also inspired by Oushak Rugs. The patternation is made up of floral and decorative patterns comprised of leaves, flowers and fronds. All of these patterns have been woven with great care within this Afghan Feraghan. Sky blue, rich terracotta and gold palmettes in the centre stand out against a navy blue ground. These colours are also used in the border but with gold and terracotta in the background instead.
Finely hand knotted with Afghan wool, the rug is highly durable and possesses a smooth sheen that makes it even softer underfoot.
An intricate and stand out work of textile art, this Feraghan Rug is a fantastic feature for dining rooms and living rooms in a period property and is sure to add softness and warmth to a space.
