Influenced by the Arts and Crafts aesthetic developed in the late 18th to early 19th century, this animated Afghan Arts and Crafts Rug is a fine example of exceptional craftsmanship and artistry. Inspired by the iconic works of William Morris, this rug features patterns from the natural world, with bold floral heads and vines bursting out from the centre of the piece and small birds flying in each corner of the field.
The deep red and blue colours used throughout this Fine Afghan Rug reiterate its Persian roots, further enhanced by the brick red border often found in antique rugs. The border of this piece is decorated with delicate, interlacing and trailing plants where the weaver introduces an almost gold colour, giving the piece a sense of wealth.
Made from fine sheep’s wool coloured from natural vegetable dyes, this Afghan Arts and Crafts Rug was hand knotted by master weavers using small looms and a traditional Persian knot. This makes the rug extremely durable, which means it would be suitable in any space with high footfall.
The solid floral pattern and bold colours would sit perfectly in the centre of a large dining area or as a central piece in a modern living room, adding colour and brightness to more muted spaces.
