This intricate handknotted piece is an Egyptian rug with a Zeigler design in fine hand-spun wool. Zeigler & Co were renowned importers of oriental carpets, operating in Manchester in the 1870s and ’80s. Their designs, which simplified traditional Persian patterns for the European market, were universally popular and are found in rug productions in Afghanistan, India and Egypt to this day.
The rug has a classic palmette design and features blues, red-pinks and creams. The rug was woven by highly skilled weavers from lustrous wool and, as such, is very durable and soft underfoot.
With soft, classic Zeigler colouring, this Egyptian Zeigler Rug is suitable for traditional settings featuring pastel colours, such as bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms.
