Contemporary Part Silk Afghan Ikat Rug

This colourful rug features a striking Ikat design which is achieved using a dyeing technique called resist dyeing. This process is carried out before any weaving begins and involves applying a natural wax or starch to prevent the dye from ever reaching the yarn in certain areas. The result is this repetition of bold circular patterns almost blurring into one another, creating an attractive abstract design of rich, contrasting colours.

Although this Contemporary Afghan rug has that distinguishable Ikat design, the colours in this piece are more subtle than in other Ikats with a mixture of pastel yellows, sky blues and creams on an unusual plumb coloured background.

The lively, repetitive pattern on this piece would add that pop of colour needed to lift a minimalist interior and complement furniture with gold and brass accents. This particular piece is also hand-woven using fine sheep’s wool, bamboo silk and a symmetrical Persian knot, making the rug hardwearing and perfect for areas with high foot traffic.
