The design of this Antique Persian Shiraz Rug is incredibly striking, featuring a central pole medallion incorporating three lozenges, which are outlined by a striking white boarder and are connected by two thick vines on both sides. This white colouration irregularly stipples throughout the rug, in contrast to the more traditional browns and reds.
This border has the typical 19th century Shiraz aesthetic, comprising smaller bands surrounding a larger band patterned with pine leaves. Rug outlines of this thickness give the weaver more creative freedom, allowing the opportunity for elaborate tribal patterns.
