Antique Persian Heriz Rug

317 x 216cm, 10'4" x 7'1"
  • SKU: P655

A unique and rare Antique Persian Heriz Rug with a white ground and grand, all-over floral design from circa 1900. It features naturally dyed majority red, pink and blue colours, with a very rare white background to create a direct contrast between the design and the body of the rug. Most Heriz Rugs have central medallions, but this piece has six large fronds running down the centre of the rug to draw the eye.

Heriz Rugs such as this were hand-knotted by master weavers using the finest quality wool. This is evident in the clear delineation and definition of all flower, frond and palmette motifs. Heriz Rugs are also extremely durable as the ground surrounding the city of Heriz is rich in copper mineral deposits. As such, the wool produced from this area of Iran is very strong and easier to dye, as copper is also a natural mordant.

Heriz Rugs are always a popular choice for individuals and interior designers. Their hybrid floral and geometric designs, natural colours and delicate detailing make them versatile pieces. They are striking in any room, especially light contemporary spaces or classic period settings.
