An Antique Nichols Chinese Rug hand knotted with a full woollen pile circa 1920. The rug features a plain pastel pink centre with a rich blue border. The borders are decorated with curving frond, branch and ornate flower patterns in pastel green, vibrant pink, rich purple and gold-yellow tones.
Chinese Nichols Rugs were popular pieces and very much in vogue in the first half of the 20th century. They are now rare pieces and sought after by collectors and designers alike. This rug has a woollen pile approximately 2cm thick and was woven by highly skilled weavers, making the rug extremely durable. The rug is in good overall condition, with minor signs of pile wear. There is some staining within the borders, but this can be easily removed with professional cleaning, and as such, this is reflected in the price.
