    An exceptional Antique Caucasian Shirvan Runner hand knotted circa 1930. The runner features elaborate hexagonal central medallions filled with large crosses, and every area of the piece is adorned with geometric shapes, flowers and fronds. Full, vibrant, rich red and blue colours run through this piece, with additional rich orange tones used to further highlight the motifs.


    The district of Shirvan is South of the Caucasus mountain range and is part of modern-day Azerbaijan. Caucasian Shirvan rugs and runners are rare items, with Caucasian Shirvan Runners being the rarer of the two. These pieces are amongst the finest and most skilfully woven textiles of the area, with this quality only found in Antique rugs and runners. In excellent condition, this woollen runner's high level of craftsmanship adds to its durability.
