150 x 118cm, 4'11" x 3'10"
  • SKU: P677

An Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug hand knotted in a rare square size circa 1870. The rug features three central octagonal medallions surrounded by stepped geometric diamonds and bordered by geometric fronds and flowers. Rich red, deep blue and cream colours form the structure of each individual motif.

Shirvan is a district South of the Caucasus Mountains in modern-day Azerbaijan. Shirvan rugs woven in this district are rarer rugs compared to where production predominantly takes place now in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Caucasian Shirvan Rugs are finely woven pieces, and this quality of Shirvan can only be found in antique rugs. This rug is in near excellent condition with a low pile and only has a few areas of wear. The quality of wool used and the skill of the weavers make this piece highly durable to this day.

An excellent example of fine tribal textile design, this Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug would sit well in both traditional and contemporary spaces. The balance of red, blue and cream tones make it a colourful addition to bedrooms, studies and living rooms.
