An unusual Afghan Ziegler Rug, hand knotted with a rare combination of pale green, rich red, dark blue and soft pink colours. These rugs can sometimes be called Peshawar or Chobi rugs, but this piece also has design influences from Persian Mahal rug designs. ‘Chobi’ is defined in English as ‘wood’, which refers to the natural dyes used when colouring the wool. The wool used for Afghan Ziegler Rugs is very hard-wearing and of excellent quality, and it is known throughout the rug weaving world for its high level of durability.
This rug has a classic palmette design featuring branches and leaves, with the pale green field complimenting these design motifs in blue, red and pink. The borders feature a dark pastel blue and pastel pink that again compliments the palmette designs in red, blue and pale cream.
As this rug features paler tones and a floral design, it is suited to a variety of spaces and hence is a versatile piece. The rug would make an excellent feature for softly coloured living rooms and bedrooms but would also give a contemporary open plan living area a unique, contrasting, classic look.
