A colourful Afghan Kazak Rug featuring a geometric design with diamond, palmette and lozenge patterns. The rug has a blue ground colour and an interesting mix of darker blues, turquoises, deep reds and a hint of cream and pink. This Kazak design is very compact and is typically seen in rugs of this type, its roots stemming from the Caucasus.
The star medallion is the stand out feature in this rug, and two diamond medallions are hand knotted above and below it. Geometric lozenges and fronds surround these motifs, and the border depicts fronds and flowers. The defined edges within the design give it a distinct and crisp look.
It is rarer to see a blue ground colour of this shade within Kazak Rugs, and combined with the small areas of pink; this gives a traditional rug a hint of contemporary design.
The wool used to weave this Kazak is handspun in Afghanistan and has strong, lustrous properties.
This rug can sit in both traditional and contemporary spaces and as such is a versatile design piece. It can be incorporated into areas with lots of colour and eclectic design themes or into more muted, softer settings.
