A light and brightly coloured Afghan Kazak Rug features a typical geometric design with star, diamond, and palmette motifs. This rug has a rich cream ground colour and an unusual mix of vibrant pinks, deep reds and sky blues. It has a classic Kazak design, the inspiration of which is from the Caucasus. Kazak Rugs that are woven today have more widely spaced structures compared to antique and vintage pieces.
The central feature of this Kazak is a diamond medallion with two star medallions both above and below it. There are also geometric palmettes woven between these areas. The precise lines from the geometric designs help to define the patternation within this piece. The majority cream with red and blue colours gives a lighter look to the rug, and the vibrant pink adds a contemporary, modern feel.
The border also depicts palmettes and lozenges, and again this is often seen in Kazak Rugs.
Handspun Afghan wool is used during the hand knotting of this rug. Such wool is very robust and also has a smooth sheen to it.
The contemporary colouring and traditional tribal design of this rug make it a great piece for both classic and more modern room decors, whether it is placed in a bedroom, a living room or a dining room.
