This Afghan Kazak Rug has a modesty about it, with the typical rich red and green colour pallets appearing more muted than that of other Kazaks. Although the red background is toned down, this doesn’t take away from the striking zig zag lozenge medallions, which still appear to burst from the field.
Situated between the three prominent medallions, you can see some smaller star-shaped patterns in green with a navy blue border which were likely influenced by early Egyptian rug design.
The border of this piece emulates typical Kazak style with alternating green and blue colours containing smaller floral patterns and geometric tribal shapes. The use of a cream background also strengthens the use of traditional Kazak rug design elements.
Many Kazaks such as this one use excellent quality Afghan wool which gives a lustrous finish. The earthy tones are composed of natural dyes, beautifully woven from sheep’s wool, making this lovely Afghan Kazak rug a natural choice for your space.
