An intricate Afghan Kazak Rug with multiple star and diamond lozenge geometric medallions. The rug has a rich red field colour and uses greens and blues throughout the detail of the design, the roots of which stem from the Caucasus region. Kazak rugs woven in the present day usually have more widely-spaced patterns, but that is not the case with this rug. There are 15 medallions, all of which are closely arranged.
Kazak rugs have very geometric designs, and this piece is no exception. This style is why these rugs have very defined and angular motifs. As there are so many medallions in the centre of this rug, no one area dominates. The blue and green colours of the medallions give the rug a grand feel when placed next to the red field colour. With the addition of cream, the detailed multi-frond border helps to reinforce this.
The wool used for hand knotting the rug is very hard-wearing and of excellent quality. This is why the rug’s pile has a smooth shine.
This Afghan Kazak Rug is a standout piece that also blends well with additional interior styles. It would take pride of place as a living room centrepiece or in a formal dining room.
