This piece is built around a large brick-red field, anchored by a stepped square in soft stone and charcoal tones at the centre. To one side, a finely mottled panel in cream and dark brown adds texture and movement, balanced on the opposite edge by a deep midnight section that grounds the design. Along the top, a loose checkerboard of terracotta, indigo and inky blue tiles introduces a playful rhythm, echoed again in the colour blocks across the lower border.
Typical of Gabbeh weaving, the composition is deliberately pared back, allowing the natural wool pile and beautifully restrained palette to stand out. Small, symbolic details – including a tiny animal motif in the corner and three discreet lozenges across the field – give the carpet a quiet, personal charm without disturbing its calm geometry.
This Afghan Gabbeh works equally well as a focal point in a contemporary living room or as a warm accent in a more eclectic interior, offering both the tactility of hand-spun wool and the simplicity of a considered, almost abstract layout.
