This Afghan Ferahan rug is both elegant and refined with a subtle all,over pattern and flourishing design. Note the Persian influence with the rich red background and Persian blue shades appearing in the blossom shapes.Unlike many other Afghan rugs, this piece has a more arcadian and masculine nature, with a composition of angular and somewhat unconventional floral designs stretching from the rugs field right out to the borders.This Feraghan design was initially produced in the 19th century, and you can see other Persian influences within the pattern choices, showcasing highly decorative floral patterns, fronds and palmettes. What distinguishes this piece from its counterparts is the medallion delicately placed in the centre of the rug, as most Feraghans have one continuous design from top to bottom.Due to the hard,wearing and lustrous fine Afghan wool from which this Ferahan is made, this piece will last for generations to come with a classic design that will never go out of style.
